Wild
Bill Shootout --- Season-long Side Match
One of Hickok's most notable gunfights was when
he shot Davis Tutt Jr. through the heart at 75 yards with one of his 1851 Navy's.
(No
need to let us know if disagree with the specifics of the gunfight. We've researched
it and there are MANY opinions out there. This is our stand and we're sticking
to it.)
For a buck a shot and on the timer you can shoot any SASS legal handgun duelist style, like they did in the movie Appaloosa, at a playing card 75 yards away. At our last match in October, the shooter that over the course of the season who hit the target with the fastest time will win half the “pot” and a pocket watch, the item that caused the shootout. Plus, if you do it with cap and ball you get an additional 10% of the pot.
No limit to how many times you can shoot.
July 19 results:
LOTS of tries: Chuckwagon, Chalkdust, Cutter, Captain John & Dakota Dan, but Three Toed Pete came through with the first hit of the competition.
June 20 results:
Durango Dave "HICKOK" and Dirt Slider tried it, but Chuckwagon Sam came the closest.
May 16 results:
Rained out
April 18 results:
No one hit the card, but Chalk and Chuckwagon came close.
Rowdy tried it too; no cigar--lots of smoke, though.
Just for the tally book, all of the April Wild Bill wannabes shot cap and ball.
